Do you have a particular "catch phrase" for which you are known?
Submitted by Emu with a Clue.
Not really.. but I have adopted a few of my brothers. "I'm going to beat the living Christmas out of you." or "If I weren't a Christian...." are my faves.
In other news, someone should prod me and make sure I post here more often.
Sooo.. my life drastically changed about a month ago. All I've ever known since I was born is no longer here. My brother. He passed away on September 8, 2006. He got his transplant.. and then due to complications he died from DIC. Google it. It's pretty nasty stuff.
Anyway, we're doing okay. In fact, we're doing good. He made it easy. He went into every serious surgery saying it was a "win-win" for him. He'd either come out of the surgery perfectly and better than ever, or he'd die and get to meet his maker.
I admire his courage. I treasure my memories of him... and most importantly. I'm happy for him. All he's ever known is medical crap.. and now he's whole. He has a brand new PERFECT body, now.
And on top of that.. we're still seeing so many lives changed as a result of his life. It's amazing.. and how can you be angry at God for taking him away when so many good things are happening?
My brother served his purpose. He lived more than most people at 60 have.. and what more could you ask for?
Sure, sometimes I feel selfish and I just want him back so I can ask him a question, spend a day with him, joke on him, laugh with him, have him eat dinner with us again. I miss that... he made eating dinner at the table with Uncle Gary less awkward.
But anyway.. that's where I've been the last month. Trying to stay busy to keep preoccupied. I think the worst is over. Even though I don't think we'll ever be USED to it.. but I think we did get a little used to him not being here even when he was alive. Whether he just spent every waking hour out of the house, was on a business trip, or was in the hospital.. he really hasn't been HERE much for the last year. Mom and I think it was God's way of preparing us.
He's gone.. and now I have another dog, a more expensive vet bill, and
my own Alienware Laptop. HEY... THANKS BUDDY! I OWE YOU ONE WHEN I GET
UP THERE! ;)
What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.I'd definitely have to answer Simple Plan's cover of "American Jesus" by Bad Religion. Mainly for personal reasons.. it just brings back great memories of fun times. :)
I've actually been neglecting this thing. Eep! I know, it's bad. Life has just been crazy, that's all. My brother's a resident in the hospital waiting for his heart transplant, so I spent most of the weekend over there. It's an absolutely beautiful hospital that he's in. I took a lot of different pictures of the view out his window and some on the way home (it's just an absolutely breathtaking view when you take the long route to the hospital). So I definitely plan on posting those at some point.
I also want to take a picture of the gorgeous fountain in front of the quaint little cafe in the lobby downstairs. Absolutely beautiful. It's a shame Aaron can't leave his floor, because if I were him, I'd be living down there.
Oh! And down the hallway toward the parking garage there are these cute little seated cubby-holes with really awesome pictures in each. Mom kept saying I could take pictures like those. Now she's set on me being a photographer. Hahaha...
Anyway.. enough slacking off at work for now. ;)
I was sitting in church this morning and in the middle of his message our pastor said.. "Umm.. can we get some medical assistance back there? Are there any doctors in the house?"
And I turn around and first I see Shannon from my community group looking absolutely upset and saying.. "Oh noooo." and then I look further and see Alicia and Tammi helping my brother walk and he's just wobbly and they're struggling to hold him up and then a couple nurses and doctors that go to our church jumped up to help guide him safely to the floor and I jumped up from my seat in the front row up and left my purse and ran to him.. so a bunch of people were asking us questions and Tammi was calling Mom, Alicia's mom was calling 911 and Stu was leading the entire congregation in a prayer for Aaron and then gave a little bit of background in Aaron's story all during the commotion.
He's okay right now though.. they took him to the riverside hospital by ambulance (but that's not his heart hospital and they had no clue about anything).. we think he just had low blood pressure and passed out. They put him on oxygen and he was already doing 100% better. They released him and he's home, but he has doctors appointments at his hospital tomorrow.. so he's going to get admitted tomorrow so they can put him on his heart strengthening medicine again so they can give him another recharge. :) So that's encouraging.
Here's a quick recap for those out of the loop:
He's
been in and out of the hospital since May due to heart failure. A brief
backround story.. he was born with a heart defect... missing half of
his heart. He had a few open heart surgeries when he was little and now
he's 24.
He just had an open-heart surgery back in October.. but unfortunately since one side of his heart has been doing all the work for BOTH sides.. and if you figure in all of the trauma his heart has been through.. his heart is just about HAD it.. So they've been doing all sorts of tests to make sure he's compatible for a heart transplant.. and then he'll be put on the list.
